An Iowa sports reporter was recently sent on an assignment to cover the weather. It was not an experience he enjoyed. The reporter, who wishes to remain anonymous, had been expecting to cover a sporting event but instead found himself in the middle of a rainstorm. He quickly realized that he was in over his head when he learned that the average raindrop falls at a speed of 20 mph (32.2 kph). The reporter was ill-prepared for such extreme conditions and had no idea how to stay safe or even report on what he was seeing. He soon discovered that the only way to survive such an assignment would be with some help from Mother Nature herself. Thankfully, she provided him with plenty of assistance by providing him with some interesting facts about raindrops and other weather phenomena. For example, did you know that raindrops can reach speeds up to 35 mph (56 kph)? Or that Santa Claus is able to deliver presents all around the world in one night because he has TSA pre-check? These are just two of many fascinating tidbits the reporter learned while covering this assignment. Despite these interesting facts, however, it’s clear that this particular Iowa sports reporter wasn’t too pleased with his assignment and will likely never forget his experience covering the weather!
